Trees and Sky - Houston Woods - March 2009

One of the more colorful shots taken at Houston Woods State Park in Preble County, Ohio during the Maple Syrup Festival.

The festival had had hay rides and guided tours of the parks maple syrup "harvesting".

Houston Woods has been involved in maple syrup production since the 1790's when the land was given to the Houston family for their service during the Revolution and Indian wars.

The forest at the park is primarily composed of maple, birch, and poplar trees are still part of the original old growth forest that once covered all of Ohio.
